Riedel SimplyLive: the compact “all-in-one” live production idea that actually makes sense

There’s a reason I keep circling back to Riedel SimplyLive when people ask me, “What’s genuinely different in live production right now?”

In a world where we usually stack separate boxes for vision mixing, audio, graphics, replay, and (in many environments) VAR, SimplyLive is one of those rare systems that can bring multiple key roles together in a single 4U chassis — without turning the workflow into a compromise.

The concept is simple:

One compact server can be configured to support multiple users at the same time — up to three operators working in parallel on the same platform.

That opens up some seriously practical setups.

Example workflow (small-to-mid productions)

Operator 1: Vision switching + audio mixing + graphics on-air

Operator 2: Replay operator

Operator 3: VAR

In other words: one compact chassis, multiple seats, fewer racks, fewer dependencies, less footprint.

And if you’re building a bigger setup, this approach can still help minimize the space and complexity you need in the rack — especially when you want modular expansion without multiplying hardware.

Replay-only? Still strong.

If you want a more “classic” replay environment, the same server can also be used as a multi-operator replay station — for example, three replay operators on one platform — with configurations reaching up to 16 channels (depending on the build and workflow).

That’s a very efficient way to scale, especially when:

• space is limited

• resources are tight

• you want flexibility without adding more standalone units

File export/import while staying on-air (huge!)

Another thing that makes this platform feel truly “production-ready”: you can export and import files independently, even while you’re playing out.

So you can:

• export streams / content out of the system

• import files into the system

• keep operations running without stopping the show

In practice, it behaves a bit like having an EVS-style XFile concept in the workflow — helping you move media in and out while the live production continues.

My honest impressions (coming soon)

I’m going to get my hands on this system more and push it hard in real-world testing — not just a polite demo. I’ll keep you posted with honest impressions, including what’s brilliant, what’s tricky, and where it fits best compared to more traditional workflows.

Because that’s the only feedback that matters in live TV: what survives pressure.

PS — if you want to level up your replay skills

Don’t forget to check Broadcast Academy for the best EVS, replay, and broadcast manuals & VODs:

And yes — we’re finishing our EVS LSM-VIA pocket manual right now: a compact 60–70 page book you can keep on your phone (iPhone), your laptop, or print as your “go-bag” reference before a show.

Hit play. Become unstoppable. Watch. Learn. Broadcast.
