“The Dark Forest of Replay Systems”

A few years ago, I read the famous Three-Body Problem novels. They are all about the Dark Forest.

If you know what I mean, you will understand this article immediately.

If not, unfortunately, you may need to read all three books first.

But if you are with me, keep reading.

The Dark Forest is a place where everyone is potentially a threat.

Everyone can hurt you.

Everyone can be an enemy.

And the strongest may attack the weakest, just in case.

I think we can compare that, at least a little, to the world of replay systems.

Some people see it this way:

If we are EVS, then Grass Valley or others become the Dark Forest.

If we are Riedel, then EVS and Grass Valley can feel like the Dark Forest.

If we are vMix, then every system outside vMix can feel like part of that same forest.

That is not necessarily what I think.

But it is how some people feel.

And that is exactly why understanding the Dark Forest matters.

You have to understand it to navigate through it.

You have to understand it if you want to live well inside this galaxy of replay systems.

You have to understand it if you want to use that knowledge to your advantage.

Because only when you are aware of all the entities around you in the Dark Forest, translated here into different replay solutions, can you move safely through the galaxy of replay.

That is what we should do.

We should understand the Dark Forest.

Because if we choose to stay blind to one system, one planet, one player, we may be finished earlier than we expect.

Awareness matters.

Perspective matters.

Range matters.
