The Biggest Mistake We Still Make in This Industry

One of the biggest mistakes I’ve seen in this industry is the fear that sharing knowledge means losing your job. But it was never about just the job — it’s about who you are.

In live broadcast, speed matters. Technical excellence matters. But in the long run, trust matters more. Teams don’t hire you just because you’re fast, or because you know the hidden shortcuts in your EVS panel or the quirks of a switcher.

They hire you because you’re the calm in the chaos. Because you’re a safe pair of hands when the lights go out or the feed drops. Because you make the team better just by being there.

That kind of person doesn’t need to be afraid of training the next operator or mentoring the new guy. Because your value isn’t in hoarding knowledge — it’s in creating confidence.

If you’re truly good at what you do, your value isn’t threatened by teaching others. It’s confirmed by it.

And if you’re still scared that someone will “take your spot” — then maybe you haven’t earned that spot yet.

We are not just hired for what we know. We’re hired for who we are under pressure, and how we make others perform under pressure too.

That’s leadership. That’s trust. That’s broadcast.
