“Perfection comes from innovation”

The more time I spend around replay systems, the more I believe this.

We all know there is no such thing as a perfect replay system.

EVS, Riedel SimplyLive, Grass Valley, Sony, Dyno, vMix… each of them shines in different areas and each of them has blind spots.

So which system is closest to perfection?

My answer: none of them – and all of them.

Because in live production, “perfection” is not a fixed product. It’s a moving target created by:

  • Engineers who design flexible architectures instead of closed boxes,

  • Operators who constantly push the limits and discover new workflows,

  • Vendors who actually listen, iterate, and ship improvements instead of just marketing slides.

That’s why I’m much less interested in asking “Which system is perfect?” and much more interested in asking:

👉 “Which team is still innovating?”

👉 “Which vendor is truly listening to operators on the front line?”

👉 “Which workflows actually make your life easier on match 347 of the season, not just in the demo room?”

Perfection comes from innovation – from constant small improvements in UI, speed, safety nets, and operator comfort.

Replay systems don’t become perfect in the lab. They become better every day in trucks, studios, control rooms and remote galleries where real operators test them under real pressure.

I’m not attached to brands.

I’m attached to workflows that respect the operator and the show.

What about you?

👉 Which replay system gives you the feeling that someone on the other side really thought about your day-to-day reality?

👉 Where do you see the most innovation right now – in hardware, software, or in training and support?

Share your experience in the comments. Let’s map where real innovation is happening in our replay world.
