Did you know that EVS IPDirector shares many features with the Windows operating system? For example, the view of files or images in a folder can be displayed as a list or as an icon gallery. In IPDirector, we can also browse saved clips in different view modes and freely switch between them depending on our needs. Believe me, this can improve workflow during broadcast.

EVS IPDirector offers several options for customizing how clips appear in the Database Explorer. You can choose the display that best suits your preferences. Personally, I always choose “Simple List with Thumbnails”. It's the most efficient for me, as it allows me to quickly locate clips using both pictures and names.
Let's concentrate on these three Database Explorer layout versions and how to enable them.
Firstly you have to open Database Explorer. The Database Explorer toolbar contains a “View” button. Clicking this button displays a drop-down menu with all the available view options: “Simple List”, “Simple list with thumbnails” and “Thumbnails View”. Clicking on these options will change the Database Explorer layout."

Simple List
In this view, the clip view changes to a simple list where each clip item is displayed in a single row. Metadata is shown clearly in separate columns, making it easy to scan and compare information. This format is especially useful where quick access to detailed information is more important than visual previews.
Simple List with Thumbnails
The Simple List with Thumbnails view presents each item in a row, accompanied by a small image for quick visual reference. Ideal when you want to combine detailed information with a small visual preview.

Thumbnail View
In this view, each media item is displayed as a large picture with a few key metadata details, such as clip name or timecode. The thumbnails are often visually highlighted, making it easier to scan through content quickly. This allows for quick browsing of clips using their visual appearance.

It's fascinating how often the 'hidden' layers of digital content are overlooked, especially when discussing image integrity or online asset management. Many creators and marketers focus on the visual output, but the embedded data often tells a much deeper story about an image's origin, history, and even potential privacy implications. This can be crucial for verification or understanding usage rights. While the concept of embedded data is clear, actually accessing and interpreting this information can be a hurdle for many, especially when dealing with various file formats and technical specifications. For those looking to easily inspect these details, having access to a comprehensive EXIF metadata viewer can be incredibly valuable for anything from privacy checks to content verification.
