Many EVS operators still believe they can’t edit a playlist while it’s playing out.
But here’s the truth — you absolutely can.
It’s a simple, smart workflow that can save your show when time is tight.
How It Works
Take two EVS LSM controllers.
Load the same playlist on both.
Start your playout from the primary controller and lock it using:
CLEAR + MENU + ENTER
Use the second controller to edit or add clips to that same playlist.
Whatever changes you make on the second controller will instantly appear on the first one — even while it’s playing out live.
That’s right: you can play and edit simultaneously, without IPDirector, IPEdit, or EWP.
Real-World Example
I used this exact setup during a major Red Carpet show featuring Jennifer Lopez and Celine Dion.
We had 1.5 hours of red carpet footage but only 15 minutes before the playout had to start.
So, I began playing out while new content was still arriving.
As the stream came in, I kept adding, trimming, and rearranging clips — all live.
It felt like chasing my tail, but it worked flawlessly.
That’s the beauty of understanding your EVS tools inside out.
In live production, every second counts — and knowing tricks like this can make the difference between chaos and control.
