"EVS Tips & Tricks: How to Assign XSquare to IPDirector (so Flatten actually works)"

If you’ve ever tried to flatten a playlist or flatten a timeline into a single clip, and then push that flattened clip to another server, you already know the truth:
IPDirector can start the process — but XSquare is what makes the workflow real and controllable.
This is one of those small setup steps that quietly separates “it should work” from “it works every single time”.
Why you’d assign XSquare to IPDirector (the real reason)
When you flatten, you’re working across multiple components:
IPDirector sends the command,
your EVS XT provides the media channels and sources,
and XSquare manages the transfer/target layer behind the scenes (for example, running on the XFile).
So if IPDirector doesn’t know where XSquare lives, your flatten workflow will be limited, inconsistent, or simply unavailable depending on the system setup.
The exact click-path (Remote Installer)
IPDirector Remote Installer → Edit WorkGroup (“Global”) → Target → XSquare
That’s it. You’re looking for the XSquare Configuration page inside Remote Installer.
What to enter (and what matters)
On the XSquare Configuration screen:
1) XSquare Address (most important field)
Enter the IP address of the XSquare machine (for example, the XFile host).
2) Credentials
Set the Login / Password that IPDirector will use for the XSquare backend user — or simply leave it as-is if it’s already set up and working.
3) Check Connection
Click Check Connection to confirm IPDirector can reach XSquare.
4) Apply, then Save
Click Apply, then click Save.
Quick troubleshooting if “Check Connection” fails
If the connection test fails, the usual causes are:
Wrong XSquare Address (wrong IP, wrong subnet, routing issue)
XSquare service not running
Firewall/ports blocked between IPDirector and the XSquare host
Wrong credentials / permissions
Most of the time it’s simply: wrong IP or network path.
