EVS IPDirector Ingest Scheduler: Automating Your Broadcast Recordings

Think of your personal calendar. It's where you schedule meetings, mark important dates, and note down tasks you need to complete in the future. Thanks to it, you don't have to remember everything, and the right reminders pop up at the right time. In EVS IPDirector, this is exactly how the Ingest Scheduler works in broadcasting.

In the world of news television, there are many events that are planned in advance. For example: a prime minister's conference at 10:00 AM, a parliamentary debate at 10:30 AM, an exclusive interview with a foreign expert at 11:30 AM, and the president's departure to another country at 1:00 PM. The following day might bring a government delegation's visit to the USA, followed by more important conferences. Everything needs to be recorded and saved. This can be done manually, but the Ingest Scheduler allows everything to be recorded and saved automatically.

he Ingest Scheduler is a feature within EVS IP Director that allows you to pre-plan and manage all recordings. Instead of manually starting and stopping a recording, this tool enables you to schedule it in advance, making the entire process automated and hands-free.

How to Schedule a Recording: Step-by-Step

Scheduling a recording with the Ingest Scheduler is a straightforward process.

  1. Right-click on the Ingest Scheduler tab and maximize the window. You can see all available recorders and the timeline.

  2. Choose the recorder/input you want to use (e.g., "REC 1") and make sure you expect the signal from your video feed on that input.

  3. On the timeline, left-click and drag from the desired start to stop time. A pop-up window will appear.

  4. In the pop-up window, name the recording, for example, "prime minister conference".

  5. Specify the exact start time and date for the recording. Then, enter the desired duration (e.g., one or two hours).

  6. Once all the details are confirmed, push save and exit button

  7. Your scheduled recordings will appear on the timeline

At the start time, the server will begin recording. A growing file will immediately appear in the Database Explorer, and you can play it from the beginning even before the recording is finished. You can also start working with the parts of the clip that have already been ingested.

You can also schedule multiple recordings in parallel, and plan recordings across many feeds for the entire day, week, or even month.

Don't worry if you close the Ingest Scheduler window. EVS server will still execute the schedule. You can reopen the Ingest Scheduler anytime to review or adjust the schedule.
