EVS IPDirector: How to Monitor File Transfers and Solve Clip Export Issues Fast

The work of an EVS IPDirector operator extends beyond simply creating clips and playlists and managing On Air playout. EVS operators are also responsible for tasks like sending files to post-production and verifying the successful export of clips. In this episode I concentrate  on the Transfer Monitoring function, a crucial tool within EVS IPDirector that allows you to track where files have been sent correctly from the EVS IPDirector server to another postproduction server.

As an EVS IPDirector operator working in the control room, I receive dozens of phone calls every day. You might ask – from whom? From people working in post-production, requesting the transfer of press conferences, important statements, or footage of an incident. There are many such requests daily. Some files need to be sent very quickly, while others fail to transfer due to an error. That’s when questions arise about why the clip hasn’t been sent yet. I’m also often asked where the file was sent. All of this information appears in the Transfer Monitoring function in EVS IPDirector.

The Transfer Monitoring function in EVS IPDirector is a key tool for tracking and managing the status of media file transfers - including clips, playlists across EVS servers and storage systems.

To open the Transfer Monitoring function, click on the Tools button in the main toolbar. Select Transfer Monitoring. The Transfer Monitoring window displays all ongoing, completed, and failed transfers. You’ll also see the clip name, destination, progress bar, and much more information. You can customize it depending on your needs and layout.

Transfer Monitoring provides real-time status updates. The EVS operator can instantly see the progress of each clip transfer, ensuring they are aware of any delays or issues. When a transfer fails, the Transfer Monitoring shows error messages, identifies the nature of the issue, or highlights status indicators that help locate the source of the problem.

Additionally, the status of the transferred clip is also visible in the Database Explorer. If the export/transfer was successful, a green icon appears; if not, a red one is shown.
